This is your first week of Masterchef. To start off you will need to find a recipe connected to your challenges requirements. This week’s challenge is to create any dish you want which will include in some form -  flour, olive oil, sugar, yeast, and cheese- provided by us. You can add up to 5 more ingredients that you and your team must provide. Once you have found a recipe (A recipe should include ingredients, method and think about the presentation), organise jobs and equipment you will need as well.  Write it down onto a document that was shared with your group and Daniel. You will have this done by Wednesday. Keep the challenge in mind; Creativity and Inventive is the key to this challenge, do something that will blast the judges and something uncommon. The teams competing are teams 1,3,5,7. There is a poster with what team you are in. You will be competing from 9:15 to 10:45. Judging will go from 10:45 t0 11. You will have prep time till 9:15 to get out everything you need but you can’t start cooking. You will need to be in the kitchen at 9:05 so we can explain everything to you.

Good luck and have fun,

Jacinda V, Nelle B, and Maya C

First day of projects

Today we have started our ( P.B.L) project based learning. We have chosen to be in a group and our project is to make aprons for the school. We want them to be creative and have a couple of different sizes. Today we made our timeline and our surveys we are going to ask tomorrow. Here are some pictures of us working on it.

Book battle

Week 8, Tuesday

As I walked/ran to the Hobsonville point secondary school I felt the nerves push on. I tried to feel confident in myself, as we walked through the doors the air filled with the sounds of many other schools all over west Auckland. We had to wait a while to go into the auditorium but finally made our way in through the crowds and made our way in and were told our seats. We sat at our table and my leg started shaking, as I do when I get nervous. Nelle, Awatea, Jaimee and I huddled in sorted out the papers. We wrote down on each sheet of paper our school and team. The lady who was going to be reading out the questions introduced herself as everyone quietened down. She explained how it would work. She told us that there were 10 rounds and each round had 10 questions. Every round was a different topic. We looked at the sheets of paper and read through them. A student from the high school introduced himself and told us he was our runner and helper. We tried to ask him what he meant by a ‘runner. He told us that the host would explain it soon. Suddenly the room fell quiet. A lady came up on stage and introduced herself as the host this afternoon. She told she would be reading out each question and it would be up on the screen as well if we want to read along. She told us to choose one round to be double points round. The room filled with noise at once as each team discussed what round they want to be double points. We chose our double round to be round 2;Dr. Suess. Soon round 1 had begun. The room was quiet apart from the small whispers of answers between groups that no one else could hear. Round 1 was Maori myths and legends. Awatea and Jaimee were a big help in those as Nelle and I didn't remember much. Our runner took our paper after 30 seconds of time to write down our answer. Round 2 began and we made sure we got most of our questions right. Luckily that morning Nelle and I had been reading and coincidentally it had been the exact Dr. Suess books that the questions asked. At the end of the round, we saw that our score was 9/10 and had been double to 18/20 which was really good. We discovered we were coming second but as the rounds went on, other teams scores were flying past us. It was the second to last round that had just ended and we looked at our scores on the screen. We worked out we coming about 4th/5th place and needed at least 9-10 points to come 1st,2nd or 3rd. The last round was Trees and tree houses. The rest of my group had read some of the books that had been answered but we didn't feel very confident in ourselves. After the round had ended we had a couple of minutes with crowd/runner questions as the recorders counted up the scores. First, they called out the 3rd place for the year 6 teams. I told the group that I would be so happy if we even came 3rd place but none of us were feeling very confident. The lady then announced that she was going to call out 3rd, 2nd, and 1st for teams that had years 7/8 years 6/7/8 and year 8 teams. "And in 3rd place is... Hobsonvillepoint primary...1." She announced. We were so surprised. We couldn't believe it. We stumbled on stage suddenly shy as they handed us a box of new books and $10 to each of us. They took our photo and we sat down back at our table. We were so happy. When it ended, we practically ran back to school so we could show the class before school ended. We arrived at school and told our class mates all about it and put the books we won on the library shelf.

Master Chef

This term Nelle and I have been organising a master chef. We did lots of planning and looking at the previous years planning, to begin with. We then started creating challenges and a poster to inform the class about the upcoming event. We put up a poster on how to list your name. As the week went on we didn't get very many people signing up so Amy offered to us that we make it you can choose your own teams. After that, we got lots of students signing up. It was week 9 and we closed down the signup poster. We needed 3 more students so we went to LC4 and asked the teachers for 3 students who would like to do master chef. It was week 10 and we told everyone that now they can choose their groups. We had completed the challenges and had the groups ready. Nelle and I are so excited for next term. Next term, week 2 is the first week and we are so excited. Each week I'll be taking photos of the groups cooking and uploading to my blog. Here are the groups competing;
