English
I arrived here this week feeling a bit nervous because I don't know what narration means so I don't know what we are doing this week. At first the teacher moved us to a different classroom. We then got started on what narration means. Narration is what narrative point of view it is. First person, third person or even second person view. We then got out the sheets from last week and wrote down what we though the narration of the story was and why. We then got some pipe cleaners each. The teacher told us to make what we though first person and third person view look like to us. For first person I made a person with a little speech bubble. I thought of this because it is like first person view is telling about themselves, telling their own story. Then for third person view I made a little cloud with a person with a laptop looking down at two people talking. I thought of this one because third person is like telling what's happening to someone else and their constantly watching what's going on.
We next learnt about P.E.E.L paragraphs. We learnt how the P is point. Telling you're idea and a little description. E (1) is evaluation. E (2) is evidence. And L is link. We then read two peel paragraphs made by the teacher about the same thing but different. One was a much better. We sorted them out so that they were in PEEL order. we were all finished then. Next week the lady said, We are going to be doing be writing our own PEEL paragraphs.
Week 2 :Signs and signals
This week we started of with choosing a card. A problem to be solved by a sign or signal. Nelle and I paired up again and chose the card; How can we help those in need in a natural disaster. Nelle and I had a thought, what could we could do? I came up with an idea to make a smoke alarm for deaf people. We decided it would let out a smell instead of sound. Rebecca said it was a good idea but what if they had a cold. Or the smell didn’t wake them up. Rose ( a high school student ) then said instead of a smoke alarm we could make like on of those medical alert necklace but it does something to wake you up. Nelle next had an idea to make it buzz. It was such a great idea. We went ahead with that and thought of some of the problems. The necklace in the night could end up not on you're skin or may end up uncomfortable. Next we had the idea to change it to a bracelet. We got excited and started doing some sketches. The bracelet would have something going through the whole thing to make it buzz. Then we thought how would it know when there is a fire. It could be connected to a smoke alarm and send buzzes to wake them up. But how would it help blind people. Rebecca got us into pairs with another group and we told each other about our project. Our feedback was what if they were blind, the buzz went off and they woke and were trying to get out of the house but walked straight into the fire. We thought about this feedback. I then had an idea to make a smoke detector in the bracelet as well, and as you get closer to the fire the bracelet buzzes harder, like hot and cold. We talked to Rebecca and she agreed it was a good idea, so we added that onto the design of the bracelet.
